Genune Website Identification

Genuine Website Identification

Genuine website identification is extremely important as it prevents inadvertent sharing of personal credentials over a seemingly genuine, but fake website set up by fraudsters.

IDENTIFY A GENUINE WEBSITE BY FOLLOWING THESE STEPS

STEP 1 - LOOK FOR URL WITH `HTTPS' AND LOCK ICON

  • Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) certificates secure the transfer of your crucial data
  • Genuine website is easily identified by the lock symbol
  • Also look for 'https' instead of 'http' as a prefix to the website address

STEP 2 - CHECK THE DOMAIN NAME

  • Fraudulent websites will use a domain name similar to, but slightly different from the genuine website
  • Pay attention to the website name specially while clicking on a link received
  • Check for minor spelling alterations, alphabet swaps, alphabet duplications etc.

STEP 3 - CHECK FOR THE 'CONTACT US' BUTTON

  • Usually, fake websites do not have one. Instead they ask the customer to fill a form and get in touch
